Yesterday I went to a yard sale and met the SWEETEST lady ever, she is ninety-one, will be ninety-two in Oct. well she was having a yard sale to raise money for her great-grand daughter who is in the hosipital, she has been in there for ten days, she has an infection. She had lots of little goodies and of course I spent an hour just listening to her...
now I know how you will all understand this when I say, those of us that have shops that sell vintage treasures are never going to be millionares, thats not why we have them, its the find, the fun, and hopefully we make some money so we can keep hunting..lol... So, I found lots of little treasures and a good new friend...ok, here's where my question comes...
while we were talking I told her about my shop and how I sell online and at a little store, there were some other shoppers and she was letting this one couple look at some silverware she had in the house, they had been there before and had asked if she had some, (I also now this couple and like them) well she asked me what she sould sell them for? So I told her the truth, she had really old sterling silver, that was marked with the date 1840, they of course had a pile and they were not very happy with me for telling her how much they were worth, lets just say if looks could kill, I would be a goner!!!
she went outside to help someone and the wife say's to me "we are going to make her a good offer", I replied "I know, but she asked me and I am not going to lie, and its to help her family"
she replies, "well I already donated to her family at the church"
hmmmmm, I don't feel that makes it right to take advantage of someone.
so what would you of done, told the truth, or nothing and let them take it?
